    The 17th century in Europe was known as the Scientific Revolution, a period of new scientific thought, discovery, and emerging knowledge based upon the natural world. The following century became known as the Enlightenment. Enlightenment writers were prolific, due to the new printing press. They popularized scientific discoveries of the prior century, new technologies, philosophies, political thought and importantly, encouraged change.
